Editor's Forward:

Well there must have been some 9's deleted in the code running our webmaster's computer (perhaps the recent solar wind stream has scattered neutrinos in his direction) but Seldom is up and running again and so is Cosmic !

Meru has a Marvelously Mystical review for you all in her review of the book 'Math for Mystics'.  Although I do not have a math phobia (yes, I loved calculus) I thoroughly related to her review of this excellent book.  I'm mystified though as to why it is only 3 stars (my gut tells me that maybe only the surface was scratched in terms of illuminating the many mysteries of math).  A golden nugget revealed during my recent conversation with Meru:  the fear of the number 13 is called 'triskaidekaphobia'......

Cheers!  ~Solac

Math for Mystics

Cosmic Thoughts from our Mystical Reviewer:

Got a math phobia?  But you feel the pull of the mystical world of sacred geometry and the allure of mystical secrets like that of the fibonacci sequence.....?  See how we've been hoodwinked by the seemingly practical logic of paper math, which when you boil it all down, is simply just a bunch of weird shapes scrawled onto a page.

This book immerses you in the rich depth of cultural themes and magick (huh?  what's with the 'k') that our ancestors held dear:  Sandskrit, Mūdrā, 'finger counting' to derive the day of week, the phases of the moon, the energies of which can help - or hinder, depending on what you intend to manifest in your life.

Learn the energy held by certain timeless numbers:  '0' the portal, placeholder, and '9' the number you can cast out of reductions (in numerology).

That infamous Thoth, known by many names including Hermes Trimegistus - in charge of time and season; a celestial timekeeper of sorts, and so numbers are important in his life.  Hermes  delved into many deep mysteries and illuminated their mathematical structures like a lightening bolt.  Kabbalah and the Tree of Life have, mathematically, many intricacies intertwined - creating the flow that gives life to all of us and the Universe (yees, we both have the same flow just on different scales)!

Curl your fingers into your hand and voila !  You have the Golden Ratio, the 'Fibonacci' spiral that is so ingrained into nature....... Have a look and you will see this graceful and magickally (there's that 'k' again, oh well some of you know what it's about) pleasing spiral everywhere.  A growing fetus, a seashell, a daisy, seeds in a sunflower, pinecones, new growth in plants (look at fern heads) even the main muscle around the heart, and WOW!  Look at our brain !!

Man made versions of spirals, coils (based on Archimedes order) include scrolls, cinnamon buns, coil of clay that begins a pot.  Constrained by gravity and physicality.  Look closely, you'll see the 'design' blueprint for the human body (see Da Vinci's famous depiction).............

The author does a fabulous job of illustrating the elegant and intricate order that mathematics brings to 'magickal' symbols in our lives and the lives of our ancestors, making them seem more real to us.
